Hello and welcome to HCM,
A suspicious
soft tissue density in supra-hilar region is suggestive of a mass in region above the hilum.
Hilum is the area where the bronchi enter the lungs.
Lymph nodes are commonly found in the hilar region.
Thus, lymph node enlargement can be the cause of supra-hilar opacity.
However, there are other structures also which cause hilar density.
Thymus can enlarge due to various disease processes and form an enlarged mass in the supra-hilar region.
Certain investigations are required to know the nature of hilar lesion.
I suggest you to consult your physician or pulmonologist preferably for further investigations to know the nature of supra-hilar lesion.
An aspiration cytology of the supra-hilar lesion is required to know the nature of the lesion.
In aspiration cytology a needle will be inserted into the lesion under CT guidance, cells are aspirated and stained with appropriate stains.
This investigation will determine the type of lesion and thus its treatment.
Thanks and take care
